Erectile Dysfunction Problem and Male Libido Enhancer

Millions of people have had problems with erectile dysfunction each year. In the past, erectile dysfunction (impotence) was seen as an inevitable part of aging. Known, with the exception of certain treatments on herbs and natural libido enhancer in limited areas of culture, there was no cure for male sexual dysfunction.

Fortunately, because of medical research, it is clear that erectile dysfunction is not just a side effect of aging is a physiological problem that can be treated with drugs, natural medicines and changes in personal habits.

What is impotence?images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQTiNa3FqpZl7trNJqLsEa

Impotence is the inability to have an erection, or keep it as long as necessary to achieve the ejaculation. The common problem can affect people at any age, and almost all men with impotence to a certain point.

What are the causes of erectile dysfunction?

There is no single cause for erectile dysfunction. An erection involves a complex series of physiological processes, so that an erection occurs, the body is needed to coordinate the responses of the nervous system with tactile sensations, emotional triggers and signals of certain hormones. If any of these events are interrupted, the impotence is likely.

Health problems are responsible for about 90% of all cases of erectile dysfunction. These health problems are known to lead to male impotence

• Cardiovascular disease
• Injury and Spinal Surgery
• Enlarged Prostate
• Irradiation for prostate cancer, the damage to the nerves of the penis
• Diabetes
• Obesity
• Hormonal imbalances (such as low testosterone levels).

Feelings run deep in the ability to maintain an erection are involved, as well as other stress play an important role in the problems of impotence:

• Depression
• Anxiety Disorders
• The performance anxiety
• Events and traumatic stress
• Partner conflict.
• May lead other factors, the impotence:
• Drugs
• Excessive alcohol consumption
• Recreational drug use
• Smoking
• Sedentary lifestyle.

How are diagnosed with ED?

• To diagnose the treatment of erectile dysfunction, your doctor a number of questions will ask about your health, medications you take and your lifestyle. If a medical problem is causing your impotence, further testing may be required and the treatment may need for your health.
• In most cases, your doctor can treatment of erectile dysfunction, the recommended fits your lifestyle and your personal preferences.
• What are the most commonly used methods for the treatment of erectile dysfunction?
• While these medications can help many men overcome impotence, with a long list of unpleasant side effects that may in some cases associated cause permanent physical damage. The most common side effects are headache, nausea, diarrhea, flushing and dizziness.

How can I cure impotence naturally with no harmful side effects?

Natural food supplement for sexual health, preparations carefully formulated herbal and plant extracts that have been used for centuries in the treatment of health problems of all kinds, including male impotence. The following are just some of the most popular means impotence and libido enhancers:
• Ginseng – increases blood circulation and improve the vitality
• Gingko biloba – improves circulation and increases the tactile sensitivity;
• Horny Goat Weed (has the same effect on goats than humans), the number of sperm increased sexual desire, improves blood circulation and promote relaxation;
• Libido Enhancer: is one of the oldest known Libido Enhancer: This plant, native to Africa and Southeast Asia, is the main ingredient in many natural supplements for male sexual health;
• Tribulus is an ingredient that tesotsterone to increase in many supplements. It has been found in clinical studies to increase testosterone levels in test subjects;
• The amino acids arginine and carnitine are important for sexual health and are found in many herbal impotence treatments.

Is this true? (zamzam water cures)?

Is is true that if you drink ZamZam water for a certain intention (such as cure for cancer, other disease, thirst, burn, etc) that it will cure or heal for that specified reason?

(That is what I read but do not know if it is true.) Any I do know Allah knows what is best and can cure all things if he wishes.)

New evidence for cancer cure is kill the cancer stem cell?

Evidence keeps growing that to cure cancer, you must kill off the cancer stem cell. For the last 30-40 years, cancer treatment has focused on just the cancer cell, and not the cancer stem cell. This is like killing the weed plant you see above ground and leaving the root behind. The root will regrow the weed, just like the cancer stem cell will regrow the cancer cells.
Now, Tykerb has been shown to kill off breast cancer stem cells in some types of breast cancer, Parthenolide/DMAPT kills AML (leukemia) stem cells and other cancer stem cells, GRN163L kills myeloma stem cells. Cyclopamine and the new water soluble version kill prostate cancer stem cells and myeloma stem cells. Clinical trials to start soon. So, will this finally lead to some cancer cures? I await the evidence.

Soursop Fruit and its benefit for Cancer Desease

Who does not know  Soursop fruit, the soursop fruit or graviola is known for besides it tested delicious, soursop fruit also has great benefits for health. Soursop fruit is well known as an alternative healing especially for people with cancer disease

Soursop Fruit Nutrition is as follows:
The Soursop fruit consists of 67.5 percent pulp, 20 percent of the fruit skin, fruit seeds 8.5 percent and 4 percent of the fruit core.
After water, nutrients that most of soursop are carbohydrates. One type of carbohydrate on soursop fruit is a reducing sugar (glucose and fructose) with levels of 81.9 to 93.6 percent of the total sugar content.
Soursop fruit contains very little fat (0.3 g/100 g), so it is good for health. Sour taste in soursop derived from non-volatile organic acids, particularly malic acid, citric acid, and acid isositrat.

Vitamins are the most dominant in soursop fruit is vitamin C, which is about 20 mg per 100 grams of fruit flesh. Requirement of vitamin C per person per day (ie 60 mg), had to be met only by consuming 300 grams of fruit soursop. Vitamin C content high enough on soursop is a very good antioxidant to increase endurance and slow the aging process (stay young).
Minerals which are dominant enough phosphorus and calcium, respectively by 27 and 14 mg/100 g. Both minerals are essential for the formation of bone mass, so useful to form strong bones and prevent osteoporosis.
Efficacy and benefits of fruit in Spain known as the Graviola or soursop natural killer cells is recognized as a distinguished cancer with 10,000 times LBH magic stronger than chemo therapy.

A study which was published by the Journal of Natural Products which states that the study conducted by the Catholic University in South Korea stated that one chemical element which is contained in Graviola or soursop are able to choose to distinguish and kill colon cancer cells with LBH 10,000 times stronger in comparison with adriamycin and chemo therapy. The discovery of the most striking of the Catholic University study are: Graviola can select to choose and kill only cancer cells while evil healthy cells untouched reply or disturbed. Graviola not like chemo therapy who can not distinguish between cancer cells and healthy cells, the reproductive cells (such as stomach and hair) were killed out by the chemo therapy so that the resulting negative effects of nausea and hair fall. Study at Purdue University show that the Graviola leaves are capable of killing cancer cells effectively, especially cancer cells: prostate pancreas and lung.

When the experts of the Health Sciences Research Institute at the news miracle soursop fruit, they began to do research. The results were surprising. Graviola tree are proven as an effective cancer cell killer. The full story about the wonders of soursop fruit can be found in Beyond Chemotherapy: New Cancer Killers, Safe as Milk publication Mothers Health Sciences Institute.
Savor the miracle fruit and soursop actually long been known by researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Thus, NCI’s scientific research started in 1976. The result proved that the leaf and stem wood soursop fruit is able to attack and destroy cancer cells dangerous. Unfortunately, these results only for internal purposes and not published.
Here are some recipes how to cultivate fruit soursop for prevention and cure of cancer

For healing, can boil 10 leaves of soursop fruit
The old (dark green) into the 3 cups of water and
continue to evaporate and boiled water to 1 cup only.
1 cup water to a patient drink
2 times a day.

Soursop leaves are said to nature such as chemotherapy, even
more abundant because soursop leaves only kill cells
that grow abnormally and let the cells grow cells
normal. While there are still effects of chemotherapy also kills
some cells that are normal cells

Anti-Aging – Discover Effective Anti Aging Formulas

Discover Effective Anti Aging Formulas

“You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.” said George Burns who lived well into his nineties. Aging, unfortunately, is a part of life. How we age is now, readily becoming a fate we place in our own hands. On the predictions of Francis Bacon, Rene Descartes, and Benjamin Franklin, the science of anti-aging has become an art. Unfortunately less than 1% of MD’s and 1/2% of nurses have received training dealing with the special needs of older adults.

Instead of searching for the ever illusive “fountain of youth”, millions of Americans are slowing their own biological clocks with the proven methods of today’s latest research. While genetic make-up and the world’s environmental influences will still affect the aging process, never before have so many had the chance to fight father time and extend their life.

Aging used to be inevitable and while some degree of aging still is, the information found on these and the following pages, offers some insight to the many fantastic breakthroughs in the science of anti-aging.

Rising life expectancy means members of the huge baby boom generation who are nearing old age, can look forward to more golden years than their parents. With aging prevention is key. Start your own journey to a younger feeling and healthier you.

The Key to Anti-Aging: Telomeres

Robert Browning wrote, “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be” more than 100 years ago. At that time, it may have well been very true. Even twenty, or ten, years ago that still held true. As the dawn rises on a new millenium amazing new advances in science and technology are occurring along with a shift in public consciousness, make it possible to now control the aging process.

Over the recorded existence of man the average human life span has increased. This increase is owed to improvements in medical care, including the use of antibiotics, improvements in housing, education and sanitation. However, there appears to be a maximum, or fixed, end point. Recent research reports have indicated that the aging process itself could indeed be modified. Evidence for this comes from the isolation of “longevity genes”, as well as the effect on cell longevity by modification of the ends of the chromosomes (the telomeres), elimination of treacherous free radicals, glucose cross-linking of proteins, and the effect of hormones and protective enzymes.

Human cells have a limited life span. In a test tube a normal human cell will divide about 50 times and then dies of old age. This seems to put a ceiling on the human life span. The culprits are telomeres-minute units at the end of the DNA chain. Each time a cell divides it must duplicate its DNA. This process results in the shortening of the telomeres. After about 50 such replications the telomeres are gone, and the cell loses its ability to divide.

Discover Effective Anti Aging Formulas

Howard Cooke of the Medical Research Council in Edinburgh, documented the first connection between aging and telomeres. He noticed that the telomeres in reproductive cells were longer than those in shorter-lived somatic cells (the kind found in muscle, skin and nerve tissue). He suggested that ever-shortening telomeres might determine a cells life-span. In other words, he proposed that the telomere length offered a clock for telling a cell’s longevity.

In a barrage of papers published over the last few years, researchers have shown that the telomerase gene can be activated in human cells, and that it does extend cell life. The initial development was a report in the August 15, 1997, issue of Science. A group headed by Nobel laureate Thomas Cech, of the University of Colorado at Boulder, and colleagues at Geron Corporation, had isolated the human gene for a catalytic protein called telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTRT).

hTRT is only present in immortal cells, whereas the gene for telomerase is pre-sent in all cells. hTRT serves to fuse the repeating sequences of DNA to the chromosomes, thereby lengthening the telomeres. Proof that introduction of the hTRT gene into mortal cells would cause them to produce active telomerase was offered in the December 1, 1997, issue of Nature Genetics by the Geron group, in a collaboration with researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Telomerase is a rarely-expressed enzyme believed to play a key role in the regulation of cell life span, functioning as part of a molecular clock of cell aging. Its absence imparts mortality to some cells and its presence imparts replicative immortality to others.

“Reconstituting telomerase activity, especially in normal human cells, is a major milestone in telomerase biology that has widespread implications for the treatment of cancer and age-related diseases,” said Jerry Shay, Ph.D., professor of cell biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

“Since cell senescence contributes to age-related disorders and limits the efficacy of cell and gene therapies, the ability to extend the life span of normal cells would have broad therapeutic and commercial impact,” stated Ronald Eastman, Geron’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

While the effect this will have on the general public is still yet undetermined, according to Jerry Shay Ph.D., “Telomerase will allow us to take a person’s own cells, manipulate and rejuvenate them, and give them back to the same patient. The rejuvenated cells could help grow new skin for burn victims and cure diseases caused by the failure of aging cells to divide, such as macular degeneration.”

For the first time in history, control of the aging process lies in the hands of mankind. How we will respond to that challenge is still an open question. But one thing is certain, for the generations just being born, living to be 100 will be routine.

The Ultimate Spare Part: Stem Cells

In July 1997, a researcher from Johns Hopkins Medical Institute announced that he had human stem cells growing in a lab dish. That announcement, following close on the heels of Dolly (the cloned sheep), represents another step towards a brave new world of high-tech reproduction. The most exciting leap in this race is that while Dolly grew into a very normal looking sheep, the stem cells in professor John Gearhart’s petri dish, should be able to develop into any cell in the human body.

Umbilical cord blood stem cells are considered a medical breakthrough and have been in the news recently in terms of advancements in health, science, transplant medicine, women’s health and disease treatments such as Hodgkin’s disease, lymphoma and leukemia. Future applications and research are in areas of gene therapy and autoimmune diseases; rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus and other immune system disorders.

Gearhart says, “We clearly had evidence for human stem cells. They’ve been able to differentiate into several tissue types in a dish.” Move over Dolly, stem cells are truly the ultimate spare part.

Sleep: one of the most important functions

“Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man, healthy, wealthy and wise,” states the nursery rhyme, but for many older Americans, “early to rise” may be a familiar, although troubling, part of their daily routine.

One of the most common complaints among the aging is that of sleep difficulty. In a study completed by the National Institute on Aging, of 9000 persons aged 65 years and older, over one half of the men and women reported at least one chronic sleep complaint. Typical sleep problems as we age include difficulty falling asleep, maintaining sleep, early morning awakening, and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Melatonin secretion is involved in physiologic sleep onset. We produce melatonin abundantly until puberty, and then it declines steadily into old age, thus causing the associated sleep deficiencies.

Chronic sleep loss, according to Dr. Eve Van Cauter, may speed the onset or increase the severity of age related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and memory loss.

Several generalizations can be made regarding aging and sleep characteristics. Compared with younger persons, as we age we tend to achieve less total nighttime sleep. Nevertheless, it cannot be assumed that older people require less sleep. Overall, the sleep-wake cycle in the elderly is fragmented, thus causing them to have more nighttime arousal’s and awakenings. Although a mild deterioration in sleep quality may be a normal part of the aging process, complaints of significantly disrupted nighttime sleep, or impaired daytime functioning because of excessive sleepiness, must be addressed.

The Obesity Epidemic

Since 1991 the United States has seen a drastic increase in the number of obese citizens, according to a report in an issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study’s author wrote, “the obesity epidemic has spread with the speed and dispersion characteristic of a communicable disease epidemic”.

A decade ago 1 in every 4 Americans was seriously overweight. Today it is 1 in 3, and climbing. Obesity is a disease that affects at least 70 million Americans; more than one-third of all adults and one in every five children. Many of today’s obese are elderly. As many as 3 million of Americans aged 65 and over have weight problems. Each year, obesity causes at least 300,000 deaths and costs the country more than $100 billion.

In today’s society the terms obesity and overweight are often interchanged in daily conversations, but they mean two different weight states. The term obesity refers to an excess of body fat sufficient to impair health, function or longevity. Obesity is most often defined as being 20% or more over your ideal body weight. Using this definition, obesity affects an estimated 70 million Americans. Obesity is a common condition, which can have profoundly negative health and social consequences, and is considered a serious disease that has been linked to shortened life expectancy. According to C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General of the United States, obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in America today.

Obesity is an independent risk factor or aggravating agent for more than 30 medical conditions including diabetes, bad knees, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, and increased blood cholesterol.

How to figure your B.M.I. Index

The following table of Body Mass Index (BMI) will help you determine your own BMI. BMI is calculated by taking a person’s weight in kg (kg=pounds/2.2) and dividing by the persons’s height in meters squared (meters=inches x 0.0254).

Find the row that most closely matches your weight in pounds. Read across the row until it crosses the column that most closely matches your height in feet and inches. If you find yourself in a cell that is dark red (BMI Greater or equal to 30 kg/m2), then you may be a candidate for weight reduction therapy. If the cell is pink (BMI greater or equal to 27 kg/m2 and less than 20 kg/m2) then you may be a candidate if you have other risk factors, as mentioned in the obesity article.

How Fat Affects Us

* Lungs – In overweight people an increased body volume must be supplied with oxygen by lungs that have not correspondingly increased in size. In addition, the presences of thick pads of fat in the abdomen restricts breathing. Anesthetic risk in increased in overweight patients. Being overweight can be a special problem for asthmatics.

* Diabetes – Diabetes is more common in overweight patients than in patients of normal weight. In one group of studies, 70-80% of diabetics had a history of obesity. When an overweight diabetic loses weight, the diabetes often improves.

* Pregnancy – being overwight can be a factor in producing difficult and prolonged labor due to abnormal positioning of the fetus. This can cause fetel distress, which, in turn, may complicate labor and delivery. In addition, severely overweight women have more difficult pregnancies and an increased occurance of maternal and infant deaths.

* Sugery – Surgical procedures are more difficult in overweight individuals due to the very bulk of the adipose tissues.

* Hernia – Certain types of hernias, involving displacement of the upper part of the stomach into the chest cavity, are more prevalent in overweight individuals than in those of normal weight.

* Joint-Disease – A vicious cycle is set up in overweight patients with arthiritis of the hip, knees, or feet, or in those who suffer from a ruptured intervertebral disc. Increased weight leads to greater wear and tear on these joints, which may become more irritated and painful. The increased discomfort forces the patient to become less and less active, thereby favoring further gain in weight.

* Adipose Tissue – Adipose (fat) tissue is composed of highly elastic cells that contain varying amounts of fatty deposits acquired via the bloodstream. Adipose tissue occurs throughout the body, covering vital organs and muscles. Overweight people have excessive fat deposits on virtually all soft organs and tissues. The number of fat cells present, and the amount of fat they contain, determines the degree of overweight.

* Blood Pressure – High blood pressure (hypertension) occurs more frequently in overweight people. Since hypertension can result in varying degrees of damage to the brain (stroke) and kidneys (degeneration), as well as the heart, it is essential that hypertensive overweight patients lose weight.

* Heart – Because the heart must supply nutrients to all tissues of the body, the greater the body mass, the greater the strain on the heart. Overweight people have a higher incidence of heart disease, the nations number oen killer.

* Atherosclerosis – Atherosclerosis is the deposit of fatty material on the lining of the arterial wall. It can result in the rupture of the blood vessel or in narrowing of these vessels, which may lead to stroke or heart attack. Studies show that there is a marked increase in the occurance of atherosclerosis in overweight people.

* Gallbladder – a significantly higher incidence of gallbladder disease is observed in overweight patients than in those of normal weight. In one study, 88% of the patients operated on for gallstones were found to be overweight.

* The Omentum – the “pot bellied” appearance of many individuals is prmarily the result of fat accumulating withing the abdominal cavity (omentum).

* Baby Fat – No type of fat, baby or otherwise, is cute. The fat cells produces by childhood weight-gain remain throughout life and can make it difficult to lose weight as an adult.

Nutrition For Life

As we approach the 21st century, there is even greater focus on the baby boom generation. Baby boomers are a key factor in the statistics that the elderly will comprise a much larger share of the population. According to Food Insight, in 1980 one in ten persons were age 65 or older. By 2030, the 65 and older number will be one in five. In the year 2011 the first “boomers” will reach age 65.

Most projections say the median age of death in the next century will climb to 84. Currently the median life span is 73 years. Due to the latest in anti-aging research, life spans are now being extended to ensure that the second 50 years are healthier, creating more quality and enjoyment

According to Ann W. Sorenson, Ph.D., health science administrator at the National Institute on Aging, “we don’t have a good handle on nutrient performance for older people.” Most experts agree that the dietary needs of people in their 50s or 60s are different from people in their 70s and 80s.

Irwin B. Rosenberg, M.D., stated “the challenge we face is to maintain a higher degree of physiologic performance throughout the life cycle so that the individuals in our society are more independent, more mobile, more able to take care of themselves.” Diet and nutrition are going to be very important aspects of health patterns in which there can be intervention.

Many chronic diseases that develop late in life can be linked to earlier poor eating habits. Insufficient exercise and calcium intake during adolescence and early adulthood significantly increase the risk of osteoporosis, which causes bones to be brittle, and crack or break. However, good diet in later years can lessen the effects of diseases such as osteoporosis, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, certain cancers, gastrointestinal problems and chronic under-nutrition.

Having a good diet in later years contributes to a higher quality of life, enabling older people to maintain their independence by continuing to perform basic daily activities such as bathing, dressing and eating. On the other hand poor nutrition increases the recovery time from illness, increases the possibility of institutionalization, and creates poor quality of life.

The American Dietetic Association states that, as you age, minerals are lost in your bones causing osteoporosis to develop. Bones break easily and take longer time to heal. It can develop in any man or woman. There are several ways to protect and strengthen your bones, for example walking makes bones strong, calcium intake needs to be high, along with getting enough vitamin D. An article in Newsweek stated that among those at greatest risk for vitamin D deficiencies are the elderly, alcoholics, and people living in sun-poor climates. Studies suggest that vitamin D may also protect against cancer. Typically as we age we tend to get less exposure to the sun, causing reduced capacity for synthesis of vitamin D, which is necessary for proper calcium absorption.

For a variety of reasons, according to Food Insight, the sense of taste and smell decline as we age. This is the result of disease, injury, drug treatments, as well as normal aging. Susan Schiffman, Ph.D. states that a reduction of overall quality of life is experienced, creating increased depression, stress, and poor nutrition. In extreme cases, older people can become anorexic.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states, chewing problems are also associated with aging, causing people to lack certain foods in their diets. Gastrointestinal disturbances, such as constipation, diarrhea, and heartburn, are also attributed to poor nutrition. Supplements are suggested to keep your body functioning properly. Through appropriate lifestyle, the degenerative biological changes associated with old age can, in many cases, be arrested.

Poor nutrition worsens the impact of chronic disease, reduces resistance to infections, slows healing, and increases use of the healthcare system. Nutrient density can be increased by nutritional supplements. Traditionally, pills and painful shots were your options. Using the concept of oral absorption, through spray vitamins and nutraceuticals, today’s technology has created a revolutionary, convenient alternative to maintaining adequate levels of nutrients. Spray vitamins and nutraceuticals are up to 90 percent effective, allowing your body to obtain the necessary nutrients. Pills contain fillers and binders. Such as talcum powder, yeast, starch, sugar, wax and shellac. In comparison to sprays, pills are only 10 to 50 percent effective.

How are pills made?

Makers of pills, tablets, or caplets have standard size molds for the precise size of their pill. It does not matter what the active ingredients are because the manufacturer will add fillers, binders, waxes, and other excipients to take up the space. A filler does nothing more than take-up volume. Some common fillers are talcum powder, sugar, whey and yeast.

If a company claims it does not use any of these common fillers, then they surely use dehydrogenated animal fat. They have to use something to fill up the space within the mold. Also they must use wax or some kind of binders to make the components stick together when they squeeze everything to make the pill.

The molds must be sprayed with a releasing agent which is another form of wax or grease to allow the pill to drop out of the mold. Some tablets are coated with a shiny coating. This is normally shellac-the same as used on wood floors and boats! Time release capsules are made of a mixture of shellac, fillers and 200 proof alcohol. There is a little bit of active ingredient and fillers coated with the shellac/alcohol mixture. The percentage of alcohol controls the time the pill takes to dissolve in the stomach.

Normal tablets must meet U. S. Pharmacopeia (U.S.P.) standards. U.S.P. standards require that tablets must dissolve within 15 to 30 minutes once in your stomach. To test your tablets, place white vinegar in a dish or glass and drop in your pill. Check periodically. It should dissolve(disappear) within 15 to 30 minutes to meet U.S.P. standards. If it doesn’t, then you are paying a high price for fillers! You can keep this test up for 45 to 60 minutes, but if the pill is not dissolved by then, it can’t possibly generate any benefit to your body.

What are By-Products?

By-products are the second-hand substances derived from an original product. Brewer’s Yeast is a leftover in the making of beer, yeast is used to ferment the sugar. Many companies take these secondary products, put them in a white plastic bottle with some other ingredient like caffeine, and label them with sensational sounding names but what they really are is just waste products with little nutritional value. Sure, they list the percentages of each component they can find, but dirt is high in mineral contents too. Would you pay money for dirt? It’s hard to understand why some people will pay a high price for secondhand products.

Acid Reflux Recovery Diet and Recipes Presents the Perfect Cold Weather Dinner

As the leaves start to turn to fall colors and in the evenings we are tempted to sit by a warm fire, hearty food comes to mind. The fall and winter bring a host of root vegetables, squashes, greens and fruit from which hearty meals can be easily made. The challenge is to keep these dishes healthy that means keeping them as alkaline as possible.

When attempting to reverse the symptoms of acid reflux, diet is probably the most important consideration. That old cliché, “You are what you eat”, has never been more true. If you eat food and drink beverages which are acidic in nature, then it follows, that you will be acidic in nature, as well. If you eat a diet which mainly consists of so called “convenience food”, you don’t stand a chance of being alkaline.

In order to defeat the acid reflux condition, one must strive to correct the pH factor of the body. 7.5 pH is the ideal alkaline body level. You can test the pH level of your saliva with pH paper, which can be purchased at any pharmacy. Some medical authorities claim that all illness, including cancer, cannot exist in an alkaline environment. If that is true, it is certainly food for thought!

It is important to remember that the acid reflux condition could not perpetuate itself without a damaged esophagus. In order to heal this affliction, the esophagus must be allowed to repair. This can be accomplished by eliminating food and drink that are irritants and, or acidic. Avoiding anything which relaxes the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) is another important consideration. The LES is the muscular valve which separates the esophagus and the stomach. It is when this valve relaxes, that acid and pepsin splash up from the stomach into the esophagus and throat, causing acid reflux.

The hydrochloric acid in the stomach has been compared in strength, to the acid in a car battery. With acid reflux, the constant assault of acid causes little lacerations to develop on the lining of the esophagus. Until these lacerations have had a chance to heal, spicy foods, such as acidic tomato products, hot peppers, raw garlic and raw onions should also be eliminated from the diet. They just further irritate the condition. Smoking, drinking alcohol and eating chocolate also relax the LES, thus impeding the healing process.

The key to acid reflux recovery is to eat alkaline, easy to digest nourishing food until the esophagus has healed. Eating early, allowing at least three hours before lying down is an essential habit to develop. Eating slowly and chewing food completely in a relaxed, pleasant and stress free environment is of paramount importance, as well.

I have listed a few of my favorite hearty fall and winter recipes that I enjoyed during my own recovery period. Cooking meat, vegetables, fruit and shellfish in liquids produce delicious dishes which can be made quickly and easily. I have employed a technique called “braising” for the main dish below. It is one of my favorite cooking methods, because it concentrates flavor in a one pot dinner. I have also included a seasonal soup starter and a special desert to complete the perfect cold weather dinner.

Try doubling the main dish and desert recipes so that you can have them later in the week…..less time in the kitchen. Remember, that cooking from scratch instead of relying on convenience foods is a better approach to good health, in general. It’s also nice to know what you’re really eating.

I hope that you enjoy the following seasonal recipes. Even though I have cured myself of acid reflux, I still serve these wonderful hearty dishes on a regular basis. The entire family should enjoy these, too. Well, the children might not like the oysters, but you certainly will. This menu is great for entertaining, as the main and last courses are made in advance and the first course is a breeze. For those of you who live in warmer climes, remember that winter is a state of mind.

Bon appetite!

BRAISED CHICKEN WITH TURNIPS AND ONIONS

This is a rustic country-style dinner dish which truly embodies the concept of “Comfort Food”. Unlike thick cuts of meat, braising chicken takes a fraction of the time and the chicken absorbs all the flavors of the vegetables and liquids. Mashed potatoes are a perfect accompaniment. This is a serving for four and requires about an hour to prepare.

1 (3 ½ lb.) chicken, cut into 8 serving pieces
½ cup flour for dredging
Olive oil
2 medium sweet onions roughly chopped
4 medium turnips peeled and sliced into ½” pieces *
3 cloves of garlic, finely minced
2 cups chicken stock
2 cups white wine or dry vermouth
2 sprigs of thyme or ½ tsp. dried
1 tbsp. parsley, chopped

Pat chicken dry and season with salt and pepper. Dredge in flour and set aside.
Heat a heavy skillet to medium high and add enough olive oil to coat well
Brown chicken pieces skin side down and turn over in about 7 minutes (This can be done in two batches, if necessary)
Transfer browned chicken to a plate and cover to keep warm
Pour off all but 2 tbsp. of the fat and lower heat to medium low
Add onions and cook covered, stirring occasionally until soft and lightly golden
Add turnips and garlic and cook uncovered for five minutes stirring occasionally to keep onions from burning
Return browned chicken to skillet and mix with vegetables to coat both sides, arranging chicken skin side up
Pour stock and wine over chicken mixture
Sprinkle with thyme
Cover and lower heat to gently simmer until chicken is cooked through and turnips are tender, about 30 to 40 minutes
Transfer chicken and vegetables onto a serving dish
Reduce sauce over high heat, if needed, to thicken
Season sauce with salt and pepper to taste and pour over chicken and vegetables
Sprinkle with parsley

*Parsnips may be substituted for the turnips, or a mixture of the two.

CREAMY NEW ENGLAND STYLE OYSTER STEW

I have heard rumors that oysters are a bit acidic; however, they have never given me indigestion. I confess that this is a rather rich dish, but a small serving will give you more pleasure than pain. One has to spoil themselves occasionally.

1 ½ tbsps. unsalted butter
I dozen freshly opened oysters (or the freshest you can find) with liquid
1/8 tsp. celery salt
1 ½ ounces sherry
Splash of Worcestershire sauce to taste
Cayenne pepper
1 ½ cups whole milk with a little cream added
Chives, chopped
Oyster crackers

Into a double boiler place butter, oysters with liquid, celery salt, sherry and Worcestershire sauce (water in the bottom pan should not touch the top pan)
With a wooden spoon, stir until the oysters are just curling on the edges (do not overcook), about a minute
Pour in milk mixture and continue stirring
Remove from heat just before the boil and serve immediately
Sprinkle each serving with a little cayenne pepper
Garnish with chives
Offer oyster crackers on the side

POACHED ANJOU PEARS IN RED WINE

You have to plan a little ahead for this dish. The pears should be ripe, but still springy to the touch. Buy them a week ahead and place in a paper bag with a banana. Don’t ask me why, but this works. Choose pears with the stem in tact.

8 smallish red Anjou pears
Juice of one lemon
1 cup extra fine granulated sugar
2 cups red wine
¼ tsp. vanilla extract
1 cinnamon stick

Carefully peel pears to the stem (the stem comes in handy for turning and for presentation)
Coat each peeled pear with lemon juice and set aside
Into a saucepan place the sugar, wine, vanilla and cinnamon
Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved
Add pears and reduce heat to a gentle simmer, covered
Poach pears until they are just tender, about 10 to 20 minutes, depending upon the size of the pears, turning once
Remove from heat and allow pears to sit in liquid, turning again so that color is even, another 20 minutes
Remove pears from liquid to desert plates
Reduce liquid over medium high heat to a syrupy consistency and pour over pears
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprig of mint

marijuana cures cancer and glaucoma……?

I am not going to say that it is a definate cure for all cancers but there is evidence that it causes autophagy in brain cancer cells, slowing growth and sometimes preventing further growth. Glaucoma is caused by excessive occular pressure, which is reduced by marijuana. It helps prevent seizures and helps many other health problems. Look it up. We are being efd in the a by our government. There are scientists that want to research marijuana, but the dea will not give them permits to get it. They do not want to find a cure for disease. They want to shoot 92 y.o. ladies on noknock searches, and plant bags of weed on them. They want to kill dogs and rip houses apart. Wait till they claim to have the wrong address and bust down your door. When your son gets shot for playing with his toy gun with the dea in the living room, we’ll see if this is important. We need to stand up people. Who doesn’t know someone who has or has had cancer? This affects all of us. the only way this plant could be legalized in the near future is if everyone made a stand, together, and just said no to the givernment’s outdated drug policy. smoke it in every house, in public places(AWAY from the kids) , grow it everywhere, and make it impossible to irradicate. Sounds crazy, but if everyone(literally) did it, the dea and the courts would be overrun. Would 95% of the American population be put in prison? Unlikely. people need to stand up for the sick and the dying and the wrongly imprisoned. That is what this country is all about.
what will we do?
THE QUESTION IS:
We need to stand up for the sick and the dying and the wrongly imprisoned. That is what this country is all about.
what will WE do?
“”"yea im sure the government doesnt want us to smoke weed cause it would miraculously make all diseases go away.”"”
1.
When did I say it would you cunnt? i specifically said that it wouldnt cure all cancer but it causes autophagy in brain tumors. Do you have any idea what that means? No you don’t.
2.
This is the government that recieves millions of dollars from pharmaceutical companies every year. They profit from your pain. I would love to move to a different country and would still want it to be legal in the states as people are going to jail, being killed, and lives are ruined for this prohibition. Peace
